FFSA: Coca-Cola Federation Cup Round Two

Western Strikers 0-0 Adelaide City

Western Strikers have dumped Adelaide City out of the Coca-Cola Federation Cup with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win in the Round Two fixture at Carnegie Reserve on Monday.

Strikers' keeper Takumi Takahashi was the hero of the shoot-out saving two spot kicks from Adelaide City's Nicky Orr and Matt Mullen after the sides couldn't be separated in an entertaining 120 minutes of football.

Captain Michele La Stella gave Strikers the perfect start, coolly converting his spot kick before his opposite number Nicky Budin squared the ledger.

Ermias Haile made it two from two for the home side before Takahashi kept out Orr's penalty, then Adrian D'Alfonso edged Strikers ahead but Ricardo Da Silva pulled one back for the visitors.
Sunjin Julardzija slotted the fourth before Takahashi saved from Mullen.

Strikers made their intent clear from the outset fielding three forwards in Cameroon goal machine Calvin Mbarga, Steve McNeill and Callum Flanagan, but City's makeshift defence held firm.

The visitors were without stalwart defender Paul Pezos and Matthew Halliday and were forced to pair Mullen and Jono Negus in the heart of defence.

City threatened midway through the first half with Da Silva snapping at a half volley and testing Takahashi as both camps battled it out in midfield.

Chahine Noujaim almost deceived Luke Ostbye with a cross-turn-shot that forced the City keeper to tip over the bar just after the hour.

His opposite number Takahashi continued to deny City who looked the most likely to steal a winner as the tie neared extra time.

City coach Damian Mori thrust himself into the action for a 10-minute cameo in the second period of extra time and looked dangerous but couldn't find a breakthrough.


Adelaide Comets 1-2 Adelaide Galaxy

Adelaide Galaxy scored twice in extra time to defeat Adelaide Comets 2-1 at Santos Stadium on Monday.

The match ended goalless after 90 minutes before a frantic half hour of extra time saw three goals and Galaxy record victory.

Frankie Marafioti got on the score sheet for the Comets while Carl White and Tom Dittmar found the back of the net for Galaxy.

Keegan Nash, keeper Rick Borgas and Marafioti collected votes for Comets, as Jake Markham starred for the visitors.

Kodi Madeley and Tom Briscoe were also outstanding for Galaxy with coach Sergio Melta undefeated in his opening two games in charge since taking over last week.


Noarlunga United 2-3 Salisbury United

Salisbury United upstaged Devine Premier League opponent Noarlunga United after a 3-2 extra time win at Wilfred Taylor Reserve on Monday.

The Devin State League leader raced to a 2-0 half-time lead before Paolo Paris and David Foy found the back of the net for Noarlunga.

With the scores tied 2-2 at full time it was Salisbury who emerged victorious with a goal in the second period of extra time with Stephen Stam netting the winner after Aaron Taye and Patrick Colliar got on the score sheet for the visitors.

Foy, Josh Gallas and Heath Bryant were standouts for Noarlunga while Taye, Stam and Scott Lindsay were Salisbury's best.


Campbelltown City 1-1 Croydon

Croydon knocked Campbelltown City out of the Coca-Cola Federation Cup with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory at Steve Woodcock Sport's Centre on Monday.

The match ended 1-1 at full time after Domenic Signorello scored for Campbelltown and Luke Klimek found the net for the visitors in the first half.

Neither side could be separated at the end of extra time with Croydon advancing to the quarter finals after penalties with Dion Gazettas converting the victorious spot kick.

Red Devils captain Michael D'Alosio was impressive for the home side, as was Nick Green and Signorello while Chris Pepe, Frank Violi and Klimek were Croydon's best.


Adelaide Blue Eagles 5-1 The Cove

Adelaide Blue Eagles easily dispatched of Devine State League opponent The Cove 5-1 at Marden Sports Complex on Monday.

ABE went behind though inside the opening quarter hour after a wonder-strike from Gene Day who beat Blue Eagles keeper Gino De Lucia from 40 yards with a delightful lob.

The home side managed to level before the break through defender Chris Atsikbasis who powered a strong header past the Cove keeper after the visitors failed to clear.

ABE piled on four second half goals and overpowered Cove with Kym Harris bagging double and Nicholas Bucco and Paul Radice also finding the back of the net.

Bucco turned in cross from Damian Crettenden before Harris and Radice converted from close range.

Atsikbasis, Crettenden and Harris collected votes for ABE while Day, Rob Billinghurst and Nathan Smith were Cove's best.


West Adelaide 0-1 Raiders

Raiders secured their passage to the quarter finals of the Coca-Cola Federation Cup with a 1-0 win over Devine State League opponent West Adelaide at Kingston Gardens on Monday.

A first half strike from Mimi Saric was enough for Raiders to claim victory.

Brad Weaver, Tomi Zilic and Aaron Westervelt were standouts for the home side while Daniel Scordo, Daniel Hain and Matthew Stokes were Raiders best.


Modbury 1-2 White City

White City showed up Devine Super League opposition with a 2-1 win over Modbury at Jet Park on Monday.

Adam Carter scored for Modbury before an own goal levelled the scores for White City.

With the scores level 1-1 at the break and the match evenly poised White City had to wait until right at the death before nailing the winner.

Defender Paolo Crisci got the decisive header to see his side advance to the quarter finals.
Steve Day, Carter and Tim Henderson were Modbury's best while Rami Ahmed, Srdjan Semiz and Andrej Rastovac were standouts for White City.


Cumberland 0-4 MetroStars

MetroStars thrashed Cumberland United 4-0 at AA Bailey Reserve on Monday in Round 2 of the Coca-Cola Federation Cup.

Francesco Monterosso bagged a hat-trick for the visitors after Scott Tunbridge had opened the scoring inside 10 minutes.

Former Adelaide United striker Monterosso double Metro's lead just before half time before adding two more after the break.

The striker took home man-of-the-match honours for his performance while James Yong and Lee Robertson were also impressive.

Cumberland's best were Yannick Skull, Alor Bulabek and David Skull.
