Redlands United 2-5 Rochedale Rovers
While the score line may say otherwise, Rochedale Rovers should be very disappointed with their performance in Saturday night’s clash with Redlands at the Cleveland Showgrounds.
Rovers seemed to play the first hour of the match in a seemingly comatose state such was the lackadaisical effort they were displaying.
Redlands took advantage early on through Graham Fyfe who scored a double in the first twenty minutes.
While Rochedale managed to find one first half goal when Patrick Cronin hit the back of the net, it was almost all one way for Redlands who may have found a better final result had they scored a third before the break.
Unfortunately for Redlands they woke the sleeping giant in the 70th minute and paid the price, Rovers unleashing a whirlwind ten minutes at the back end of the match scoring four times through Tim Smits, Rueben Way and a double to Steven Unsworth to claim a comprehensive 5-2 win at fulltime.
Second placed Rochedale will need to perform for a complete 90 minutes if they want to defeat Wolves FC, yet still sit a fair way above the pack.
Peninsular Power 1-1 Eastern Suburbs
A second half Josh Taylor goal saved Peninsular Power from an embarrassing home loss against fellow top six side Eastern Suburbs on Saturday night.
Both Power and Eastern Suburbs are both firmly in the hunt for a top four finish and the drawn result will be seen as an opportunity lost.
In a hard fought match it was Eastern Suburbs that drew first blood, when in the 36th minute Matt Boyd was on hand to tap a powerful Ryan Stenhouse free kick past the outstretched arms of Peninsular 'keeper Marko Radmanovic taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
Battling hard for an equalizer it took until the dying stages of the match for Peninsular to save themselves from the clutches of defeat when Josh Taylor skilfully curled his corner kick into the back of the net to secure his side a well deserved point at fulltime.
North Pine 5-1 Mount Gravatt
North Pine returned to the winners circle after a run of disappointing defeats to comprehensively beat relegation candidates Mount Gravatt 5-2 at home on Saturday.
The result was wrapped up by half time with the home side finding the net four times before the break courtesy of Anthony Roulston, Jon Wheeler and a double to Shane Coffey.
Mt Gravatt found a consolation goal in the 61st minute however that goal was cancelled out in the 88th minute when Josh Ahern added a fifth for North Pine.
Mt Gravatt have a tough battle to get out of the relegation zone and will need to win the majority of their remaining games, North Pine are in a similar situation if they want to make the top six and secure a finals spot.
Taringa 3-2 Capalaba
Taringa came from behind twice to secure a gutsy 3-2 victory at home against a dangerous Capalaba side desperate to regain the form that saw them defeat Wolves FC.
Capalaba took the lead after only four minutes when Steven Homer pounced on some lazy defending from Taringa to score from close range.
Taringa levelled the ledger in the 15th minute through Steven Chester however saw themselves behind on the scoreboard only moments later when Capalaba’s Joel Drewek converted from a well hit free kick from 20 yards out.
Taringa looked to bounce back again and did so just before half time through Jaspal Benning to send both sides into the break at level pegging.
As he has all season, John Paul Sludden proved to be the game breaker for Taringa, the skilful Scotsman scoring in the 58th minute to take the home side to 3-2 and a lead that would last until the final whistle.
University of Queensland 0-5 Wolves FC
Wolves FC continued their domination of the Brisbane Premier League competition with another flawless display, this time against the students of UQ on Sunday.
Steffen Vroom took no time opening the scoring for Wolves hitting the back of the net in the eighth minute to signal what would turn out to be a long afternoon for UQ.
Trent Clulow scored in the 21st minute to give Wolves only a two goal lead at the break and was unlucky not to be leading by a more comprehensive margin.
The second half was more of the same for UQ with Wolves scoring three times courtesy of Kado Aoci, Kresimir Bek and Vroom’s second for the match to claim all three points at fulltime.
UQ will need to lift if they want to return to the top six and defeat this mid season lull they have found themselves in of late.
Olympic FC 4-0 Pine Hills
Olympic FC made quick work of cellar dwellers Pine Hills at home to claim a 4-0 victory and further cement their third position on the Brisbane Premier League table.
Pine Hills never looked like threatening; however they managed to hold off a dangerous Olympic FC side until the break, both sides going into half time still locked at 0-0.
Olympic were too strong a side to be kept scoreless and took only 70 seconds into the second half to take a 1-0 lead courtesy of frank Chung.
It was all downhill from there for Hills with Olympic FC finding the net fast and often, goals to Alexs Panic and a double for Evan Papadopoulos seeing the home side claiming a comprehensive 4-0 victory at full time.
