Tuesday, August 02, 2011

Ever wondered what keeps the Sack afloat or which articles keep those hits rolling in? Of course you do! Well, here’s your chance to find out as we present to you the top ten most read articles for the month of July!

1: Hyundai A-League transfers 2011/2012
Not a surprising result for the number one spot as everyone seeks out the wheeling and dealing of the Hyundai A-League off-season. No doubt this article will be very popular as the season gets closer and closer.

2: The frustration of the Westfield Matildas
One of the most controversial articles in The Football Sack's history, Christian Layland's article created long-winded arguments on Facebook, Twitter and no doubt in some lounge rooms around the nation. Even players mentioned in the article got involved in the fireworks!

3: Perth Glory 0-2 Glasgow Celtic
With pre-season also comes friendlies, and in comparison to club supporter size they don't come much bigger than Celtic. Neil Sherwin covered this match, and a high profile friendly meant this article is high profile on the hit list!

4: W-League: TFS Team of the Year
As the nation was entranced by the FIFA Women's World Cup, everyone needed to check up on who the players to watch were - and of course, when it comes to womens football nowhere is as informative as the Sack, hence why this 'blast from the past' from our resident Westfield W-League journalist Chris Layland is so high this month!

5: Liam Miller a genuine craft at Perth Glory
West once again, as a former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland star signs with Perth Glory. Many people came to the Sack to read Neil Sherwin's interview and to find out exactly what was running through Liam Millers head.

6: Tsekenis urges fans to turn out for Olympic
A rallying call from Sydney Olympic coach Peter Tsekenis to bring more supporters to the game was obviously shared around as Matt Greenlaw's piece made it to number six on our list! Now if only Olympic could get as many supporters as this article has hits.

7: QAS cut Razorbacks down to size
The only state league match report in July's top ten shows the popularity of the very entertaining Queensland State League as Melanie Dinjaski's action photo's and her written word tell the story of the Academy's dramatic win that day.

8: Barbarouses departs Brisbane Roar
The exit of the exciting young striker cause many a furrowed brow up North just as it caused many an interested reader - catapulting this article up to number eight this month, giving Melanie Dinjaski her second article on this list so far.

9: Victorian Premier League: The run home
The most exciting part of the season; the run to the finals, is encapsulated in this piece as Scott Condon reveals each clubs run home, his own predictions and what to expect in the Victorian Premier League.

10: Alex Smith coasts to A-League berth
The Football Sack's exclusive interview with the only North American in the A-League sneaks into number ten on our list, rounding out Melanie Dinjaski's hat-trick. Smith reveals why he joined Gold Coast United, what his expectiations are and also some lessons he's learnt from his past.
