It’s been a big day for the Newcastle Jets with newly appointed head coach, Gary van Egmond, confirming this afternoon English striker Francis Jeffers will return to the club, subject to medical clearance.
The 30 year old will play out the remainder of the 2011/12 season with the Jets, a move which van Egmond believes will make supporters happy and lift the team.
“It is great news for out 10,000 plus Members and our supporters that we have been able to agree to terms with Francis Jeffers,” van Egmond said.
“There is no doubt a fit Francis Jeffers will strengthen our squad and also bring experience and class to the squad.”
Jeffers enjoyed his time during 2010/11, playing with the team on a 10-match guest contract and was quite excited to return to the club.
“I really enjoyed my time with Newcastle when I was last there,” Jeffers said.
“I felt like I had enjoyed a great relationship with the fans and the people of Newcastle and I am looking forward to coming back and playing for them again.”
Jeffers will arrive in Australia on Friday and is required to pass a medical when he arrives in Newcastle. He’ll miss this weekend’s game against F3 rivals, the Central Coast Mariners, at Ausgrid Stadium.
