Jodie Taylor: Round Two

Wednesday, November 02, 2011

We faced Perth in our first game of the season and what a great way to start winning 2-0 in front of a home crowd!

Going into the game we felt a little unprepared due to six of our key players only just returning from the U-19 Asian Championships in Vietnam...

We literally had two training sessions together as a full squad before our first game so given the circumstances we played well and scored a couple goals too!

After a strong performance against Perth, we headed to Sydney for Round Two in the Westfield W-League. Going into the match we knew it would be a tough game; Sydney have always been a quality side and this season is no exception.

We were narrowly beat 2-1. Guest player and US international star Megan Rapinoe was in another class on the day and seemed to be the difference, scoring the winner eight minutes from time.

It was another great performance from the girls and we were a little unlucky to not come away with something. Although we were disappointed there were a lot of positives to take out of the game.

As we were packing up the coach after the game to head to the airport we were notified that all Qantas flights were grounded indefinitely. After much deliberation from our staff the best option was to stay the night and drive back to Melbourne the next morning!

Although not an ideal situation we did get to stay in a flash hotel in Sydney on behalf of Qantas and the drive home surprisingly went pretty quick, providing a perfect opportunity for team bonding!

Other teams definitely had it worse… Perth Glory Women were stuck in Canberra all week!!

We have had 2 solid performances so far this season and having a bye this weekend will give us a couple weeks of training and preparation ahead of our game against Canberra (Live on ABC).
