Crossbar: Nabbouty call

Monday, November 12, 2012

Oh how the mighty have fallen!

In the space of 24 hours the two Melbourne teams sent the two previous champions into free fall. Brisbane were a shadow of their former self on Friday night when the previously out of form Heart destroyed the defending champs.

Melbourne Victory destroyed Sydney's soul on Saturday night when 3 goals in 12 minutes was the boulder that broke the camel's back. Ian Crook resigned not long after, leaving the club in short term disarray (nice day to start a new job David Gallop - welcome aboard).

Meanwhile the Mariners, Reds, Jets and Perth continue to click over the points column and look likely at this stage to continue to streak away from the field.

These snuck under the Crossbar and into The Sack (Likes)

1.  Melbourne Heart. What a display.

2. Melbourne Victory. What a win.

3. #HeskeyTime. Rooney and Walcott in doubt for Englands next match. Go on Roy.

4. Ange Postecoglou. Brings on Nabbout for his third game in arguably the biggest game of the season and BANG, BANG. Genius.

5. Daniel McBreen. On fire.

6. Dean Heffernan on Twitter. Yes its about the hair @Heff35.

7. Dario Vidosic. Hopefully Holger still has his number handy.

What went over the Crossbar (Dislikes)

1. Sydney FC. Can you be anymore like Melbourne Season 7?  A shambles at this very minute.

2. Brisbane. Wheels may have not fallen off yet but the nuts are really loose.

3. Ian Crook resigning. Hopefully he stays involved at A-League level because we can't afford to keep burning these good football people.

Things we learned:
Stability is key. Melbourne under Merrick, Brisbane under Ange, Mariners under McKinna/Arnold.

Things we already knew:
Emile Heskey is good at scoring goals now.

Things we could change if we had superpowers
More teams, More games. Five games a week just isn't enough. We're a bit like Ryback at the moment "Feed me more" (obscure WWE reference).

Hero of the week:
Andrew Nabbout. And the "Thats what I'm talking Nabbout" headline we went with.

Villain of the week:
Ricki Herbert. Thanks to @Patrick478 who wasn't too happy about the tactics used on Sunday.

Player to watch:
Tommy Rogic. Get to an A-League game before this kid gets snapped up in January.

This week's prediction:

1. Over 30,000 at Etihad to see Victory v Mariners.

2. Adelaide vs Melbourne Heart will be intriguing.

3. David Gallop will have a very uneventful first week in the job.

1. Brisbane to beat Melbourne Heart comfortably.  REALLY REALLY WRONG

2.  We won't see 23 goals. CORRECT

3. A full house at Allianz. Baying for blood. One way or another.   CLOSE ENOUGH

Melbourne Victory @ $3.05 to beat Sydney after looking like they've finally clicked. - JUST BUY ME A BEER

Worth a punt:

Sydney to beat Brisbane on Friday night @ over $3 - ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS back a side that has a new coach first up.
