Speaking after last night's 3-0 defeat to Perth Glory, van Egmond spoke with a tone of disappointment in his voice as the Jets failed to capitalise on a number of chances.
"At the moment we’re not putting the ball in the net when we create a number of chances," he said.
"You’re never going to win games when that happens so from a confidence point of view they (the players) are probably down a bit.
"We need to pick ourselves up and really start to work hard again on the training field and get ready for the next week."
Emile Heskey hasn't found the net since Round 5, while Ryan Griffiths was well marshalled by Glory's back four.
It has been a difficult week off the field as well for the Jets with the news that owner Nathan Tinkler owes a considerable amount of money to the government for unpaid tax, however van Egmond dismissed suggestions that this could impact the playing group.
"It has no bearing (on us) whatsoever," he said.
"We had a conversation very, very briefly yesterday and it was just about how we can’t control anything outside of the football."
Meanwhile, van Egmond's opposite number Ian Ferguson was understandably delighted to see his side get back to winning ways for the first time since Glory beat the Jets in Round 5.
The return of Liam Miller, Michael Thwaite and Scott Jamieson was a massive boost and it showed on the park with all three in the thick of the action throughout.
"I was very happy with the performance; when you bring back the likes of Miller, Thwaite and Jamieson it just brings the quality back into the side," he said.
"I still feel that even though results weren’t going our way we were still some good stuff and bringing these guys back in made a huge difference."
Glory move from eighth to fourth on the ladder, at least temporarily, but Ferguson is just crossing bridges as he comes to them.
"I like taking one game at a time, I don’t like looking ahead to three and four games," he said.
"There are no easy games in the A-League and bottom can beat top, and that’s always been the case for eight years."
Both managers were in agreement that Ben Williams' decision to award Glory a penalty was a poor, with Ferguson describing it as soft.
Van Egmond refused to be drawn into making too much comment though.
"I’ve been through referees and been talking about referees so I’m not getting involved in it at all," he said.
"If he’s deemed it’s a penalty then it’s a penalty, if he deems it’s a free kick it’s a free kick; I’m not getting involved in it anymore and I want the players and the game to have the headlines rather than the referees."
The Jets are back in Newcastle next week to take on Sydney FC, while Glory travel to Suncorp Stadium for a game against Brisbane Roar.
