Wanderers and Jets prove no drugs in A-League

After the drug scandal that rocket Australian sport (...you know, except for football), the Wanderers and Jets managed to do the A-League a favour by playing out a game that provided adequate proof there are no performance enhancing drugs in our competition as Wanderers ran out 2-1 victors.

The majority of the first half was played with a tempo so slow that you would be excused for wondering if illicit substances of the non-performance enhancing type were shared in the locker rooms pre game. That was until Van Hersi unleashed a shot in first half stoppage time that Birighitti could only deflect into the air and watch as it squeezed in at the far post.

Both sides had patchy periods throughout the game where they were the more 'dominant', though it was fairly scrappy all across the board and neither team could consistently put together passages of attractive football.

Mark Bridge had numerous chances to hit the back of the net during the first 80 minutes, but Birighitti was up to the task. Two stretching saves in particular would've left Bridge wondering just what he had to do to beat the 'keeper. The Football Sack does not suggest match fixing.

Thankfully Bridge didn't have to resort to those measures, as there was no doubt his shot that finally did beat Birighitti (his 8th of the night) was good enough to beat almost any goalkeeper in this league.

Newcastle did have a majority of the ball but they failed to break down a Western Sydney defence that has proven how solid it is during the first 19 rounds, and once again showed it's fortitude until stoppage time when Zadkovich managed to pull one back for the Jets late in the piece with a great strike from distance, but it was too little too late as Wanderers picked up yet another three points.
