@MelbourneHeart winners, but not tweeters

Saturday, February 09, 2013

Melbourne Heart or Perth Glory? The real question here was who would be the first player to tweet during this #InteractiveMatch @MelbourneHeart had proposed. Unfortunately for fans of Twitter, there was no live tweeting from players on the field but it wasn't the stalemate most of us expected at AAMI Park.

@Kalmar23 earned himself a whole heaps of new followers after a #magnificent free kick just outside the box put @MelbourneHeart 1-0 up after 22 minutes. Sure he'd want to #retweet that on a few occasions, scoring his 4th goal for the men in red.

Wonderboy @MelbourneHeart aka Eli Babalj had the chance to bag his first since returning from his stint overseas however two wonderful #blocks by Danny Vukovic ensured Glory stayed within reaching distance of the three points. He made no mistake of the opportunity presented to him at the 56th minute mark, pouncing on the loose ball in the box and slamming it past Vukovic. The #Yarraside making it clear how happy they were to have to youngster back in a Heart kit.

Andrew Redmayne celebrated the goal with a hop, skip and a fist pump however must have forgotten to bring his iPhone out with him to congratulate Babalj on his goal via Twitter.

Perth Glory had their chances early in the second half when substitute Nagai had two shots cleared from close distance by @jwzwalker25 and @DavidVrankovic respectively. There was also a penalty shout by Glory players when @gerhardt_6 looked to have handled the ball in his penalty box, the referee waving claims away.

@MelbourneHeart no doubt happy not only with their win, but promising signs from youngsters, namely @jezwalker25. On the other hand, fans of the away side clearly disappointed with their recent performances, chanting "sacked in the morning" in the direction of the bench.
