Nix come out on top in the Distance Derby

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Perth Glory did their hopes of playing finals football no favours as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat against the Wellington Phoenix at nib Stadium.

Paul Ifill and Stein Huysegems did the damage with a goal in each half, while Ryo Nagai netted for the hosts.

After a dour opening half hour, the finally game sprung to life when Matias Cordoba forced Glen Moss into an excellent.

Paul Ifill stole in to open the scoring after 35 minutes when he was quickest to react to Danny Vukovic's save from Jeremy Brockie.

Glory had chances to equalise before the break but both Shane Smeltz and Liam Miller were denied by Moss.

Things got worse for the hosts just after the hour mark when Brockie crossed for Stein Huysegems to head home a second.

However, Ryo Nagai made things interesting as he nodded in at the back post from Steve McGarry's cross.

There was to be no late equaliser though meaning Glory remain outside the six for at least another week.
