The loss sees Heart remain
winless in the 2013/14 season, locked at the bottom of the Hyundai A-League table and goalless in their last three contests, causing pressure to mount
on the man in charge.
Shannon Cole’s goal in
the 27th minute came after waves of pressure
from the host all amounted to nothing, an all too common sight for the men in
red and surely leaving a sour taste in the mouths of fans.
Robbie Wielaert, donning the
captain’s armband for the evening, needed to do better to clear an incoming
cross in a contest with Tomi Juric, while Cole took advantage of the “schoolboy
error” in defence and had two bites at the cherry before finally sending the ball
past Andrew Redmayne in goal.
Post-game, Aloisi had
positives to say regarding the performance of his bottom-placed Heart.
“We pushed the Wanderers,
they are minor premiers, who were close to full strength with I think only
Hersi missing. With the boys we had out [Kisnorbo, Hoffman, Kewell, Engelaar,
Maccalister all out injured] I thought we did well to push them this far.
"If we keep on working and
improving, the results will come. We’re five games in and there’s 22 games to
go. Points will come.”
There was no doubt Heart had
their chances to take points from the game, similar to their performance last
week against the Brisbane Roar. Their poor finishing however was once again a
frustrating factor for the 8000 fans who braced the harsh Melbourne weather in
hope that their side would turn their lack of fortune around.
Showing their disappointment,
Heart fans jeered their boys off at half time and also took to social media to
slam Aloisi’s decision to replace Heart’s danger man David Williams with
Nicholas Kalmar while chasing the game in the second half.
Williams was arguably best on field for the hosts during his 65 minutes on the pitch and caused trouble for
the Wanderers defence throughout the game, hitting the crossbar with a powerful
long-range shot early in the contest.
The only explanation Aloisi
had for the change was that Kalmar “looked very good”. No doubt many Heart fans
of the female gender may agree with his statement, however he could do little
to help salvage a point for the hosts to ease the pressure on Aloisi.
The
coach should probably steer clear of Twitter, with Heart fans starting their own #AloisiOUT
campaign after the lack of results. We're sure Frank Farina will be more than happy
to pass on some advice on what not to do. Both coaches meet next week when
Melbourne Heart host Sydney FC at AAMI Park on Friday night.
The Wanderers… well, they’re
sitting pretty atop the table after their tough win however will be slightly
concerned with wonder boy Tomi Juric, who had to be helped off the field post match with an injury. They host Melbourne Victory next week, which should be a
fascinating contest both in the stands and on the pitch.
