W-League: Roar hand Wanderers the win

Sunday, October 12, 2014

After an embarrassing loss last week, the Wanderers were looking to redeem themselves at Suncorp Stadium. They did just that, as the Roar left the field with heads in hands as the Wanderers snuck away with a 2-1 victory.

Brisbane, desperate for its second win of the season, felt the pressure, and very little of the players' hard work appeared to pay off.

The Roar dominated the game, but a cringe worthy own goal from Larissa Crummer in the second half put a wave of frustration over the team.

The blunder sent Brisbane into overdrive, but Trudy Burke effortlessly deflected countless shots on goal.

Brisbane looked promising early on, but it failed to show on the scoreboard.

Wanderers' Hannah Beard scored against her old team and it appeared to give the Roar a little extra momentum.

They fought back hard and Tameka Butt scored off a through ball seconds before half time.

The level score set the stage for an interesting second half, but the Roar's hopes came crashing down as Nadine Angerer failed to save her teammate's header.

The Wanderers came close to scoring a third after Kendall Johnson’s impressive shot on goal, but Angerer was determine to show her worth.

The Roar felt the pressure and their dominance continued, but luck was on the Wanderers' side and they managed to keep the lead.

Supporters were on the edge of their seats in the final five minutes as Brisbane fought to level terms, but the Wanderers held on to claim a 2-1 victory.
