Quadruple-header on the cards?

In the wake of EnergyAustralia Stadium being deemed unplayable, after the Super X motocross ripped up the surface, news has reached The Football Sack that the FFA is moving swiftly to find an alternative.

The rumor rumbling around football circles is that the current double-header on Saturday at the Sydney Football Stadium, featuring Sydney FC vrs Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory vrs Central Coast Mariners, is to become a quadruple-header.

The postponed match of Newcastle Jets and North Queensland Fury will lead the proceedings, starting at midday, followed by the two games already planned. The Epic Matchday Saturday (EMS) will be rounded out by a second game by Newcastle, this time against Melbourne Heart. Kick-off for this game will be 9.30pm.

It is an unprecedented move by the FFA, who are no doubt patting themselves on the back at having solved the dilemma presented to them this week. Sources reveal the LA Galaxy match was also to feature on EMS, but the FFA only contacted the team whilst they were mid-flight, and this could not go ahead.

Nth Qld Fury are said to be happy at the result, as they no longer have to travel back to Townsville for a few more days. Moreover, they look refreshed at the idea of playing to a stadium that will no doubt reach double figures.

When contacted for a response to allegations that a quadruple-header was not a legitimate solution to unsuitable playing surfaces or poor crowd attendances, an FFA spokesperson seemed coy.

"Yes, the World Cup bid will bring a massive boost to soccer in Australia".

If any of the above were true (which it isn't), the team at The Football Sack would eat their respective hats.
