Team of the Week: Round 2

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Each week Matt Collard will reveal The Football Sack's best eleven. Disagree with his choices? Let him know in the comments section below.

Goalkeeper
Ante Covic is the only round one team of the week player to make a return appearance. His Melbourne Victory side lost 1-0 to Adelaide but it really should have been much more. Covic's saves were vital to Victory staying in the game until the very end.

Defence
This weeks center backs both kept clean sheets - Milan Susak and Andrew Durante. Susak was an absolute beast in defence and the player of the round for mine. Won every header, every challenge and every interception. Durante was also solid. Newcastle didn't get a shot in until around the 70th minute I believe and he played a big part in that.

Another player who played a big part in Wellington's dominant performance was Tony Lochhead. Him and Ivan Franjic had good games in the fullback roles.

Midfield
I went with two Adelaide midfielder's and Perth Glory's Liam Miller this week. I thought Spase Dilevski and Dario Vidosic bossed the midfield for Adelaide United and were a major factor in their dominance, especially during the first half. Dilevski's passing and off the ball movement was brilliant, while Vidosic always looked dangerous on the ball.

Miller was a very important role for Perth in their 2-1 win over Heart. His defensive play was good, and he was crucial in the quick transition from defence to attack.

Attack
Leo Bertos and James Brown are working the flanks for me this week with Shane Smeltz the front man.

Brown's goal was absolutely superb, and after missing out last week I thought he definitely deserved a run in week two. Bertos also had a brilliant match and was a major aspect in Wellington's dominant attack.

Smeltz was simply outstanding, and his two goals were both very well taken. Looks to be in top form right about now.
