Big Blue overshadows Farina's own blue

It's fast becoming less important than the Sydney derby but the Big Blue still holds huge significance to Sydney FC fans. And now with Kevin Muscat as full-time head honcho of Melbourne Victory, a win would taste all the more sweet.

However in the build up to the game Sydney coach Frank Farina has hit out at those same passionate supporters in an awkward and embarrassing blog post on his personal website:

"A real football fan follows their team through thick and thin. A real football fan, when faced with 1 win and 3 losses for the start of the season, is asking what they can do to help get the team on track. A real football fan doesn't write an expletive laden message about not going to the game on the weekend, but realises this is the time more than ever that they're needed at home against their biggest traditional rival."

In some ways it's a fair response to the negativity he's received via social media over the past 12 months. Such a constant barrage of tweets and posts calling for your head would be hard for anyone to take without responding.

And why shouldn't he? He has a right - like all Australians do - to tell naysayers to get stuffed; to shout "Get a rat up ya!" whilst casually flicking them the bird. Thing is, they've kind of got a point.

A loss to Melbourne Victory, who ultimately struggled last week against Wellington Phoenix in what was a very open match, will not bode well for Farina, despite having the "full support" of the Sydney FC board. Another Hyundai A-League season will be over for Sydney in as quick as you can spell 'shambles'.

But here's the good news for Farina; a win on Saturday night is very achievable.

Muscat is no Postecoglou. He's not even a John Aloisi. He's unproven, he can't pull off wearing a suit, and he should crumble come Saturday evening. Melbourne Victory are a decent side but need a thoughtful and proactive coach to lead their climb up the ladder.

Sydney on the other hand already have a man to lead the charge and insiders at the club have him a 70% chance of starting the match. A one man team might not be to everyone's liking but I'll take relying on Alessandro Del Piero over risking my lot in support of a coach who can't keep his trap shut any day of the sky blue week.
